Bhanupratap Sharma, Head of Department

Bhanupratap heads the Institute of Design, Environment and Architecture, Indus University. He pursued Bachelor’s in Architecture at CEPT, Ahmedabad and then went to Canada for his Master’s in Urban Design at the University of Toronto. He worked and collaborated with numerous agencies in India, Middle East and North America before returning to India with exposure in industry, education & cross-disciplinary pedagogy. His areas of interest are humanities, theory of design and automobiles.

Arvind Joshi

With 56 Years of experience, Architect A V Joshi is a pioneer architect in the city. He was associated with prestigious projects and research in various places like: Bombay, Poona, CBRI-Roorkee and NID-Ahmedabad. He also met and worked with many prominent World Class Architects and Designers to mention a few, like Ar. LOUIS I.KAHN on IIM in Ahmedabad, Ar. ALWAR AALTO, Ar. PERESSUTTI on New India Assurance Building in Bombay, PIER LOUIGI NERVI, Ar. HARRY WEESE on Air India Housing in Bombay, etc.

After graduation in 1961 from Bombay University, he was trained at STUDIO BBPR-MILANO, ITALY and also had visited most of the European Countries and USSR. Having OWN practice since ‘69 initially in the name of OMNIDESIGNS,Subsequently Since’78 as “ARCHITECT A. V. Joshi”.

Having successfully Designed and supervised many Residential, Industrial, Educational, Commercial Buildings and Interiors, now he is a Professor at IDEA-Indus University.

Nitin Gurnani

Nitin has a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from MNIT, Jaipur and Masters in Community Planning from University of Cincinnati, OH. He has over a decade of professional experience in USA, UAE and India. His professional experience includes infrastructure projects like Airports, Convention Centers, Multi Super-Specialty Hospitals, Government Buildings, Residential Townships, etc. Nitin has taught in Architecture schools in USA and India. He is also a LEED accredited professional from HSGBC and conversant with BIM technology.

Manan Singal

Manan Singal is an Architect/ Urban designer with over 10 years of experience in the field of Built Environment. She pursued her Architecture from CEPT University, Ahmedabad and went on to do her Marters in Urban design from Oxford Brookes University, Oxford. 

She has vast experience working in India and the UK in the fields of Architecture and Urban Design. Her professional expertise also lies in the field of Conservation and Documentation of Historic monuments. Manan is constantly engaged in multidisciplinary research, teaching and knowledge exchange of activities focused on emerging technologies in the built environment.

Pathik Gandhi Architect and Urban Designer

Pathik Gandhi is an architect and urban designer. He has completed his Post graduation in Urban Design from National University of Singapore and Under graduation in Architecture from CEPT University with honors. Before he went for his post graduation, he has taught at the Factly of Architecture, CEPT University for three semesters. He possess experience of working in the industry for about 7 years. He has worked on some of the urban institutional projects and large scale architectural projects in Singapore for 4 years. His key strengths are for working with Urban spaces.

Paresh Gandhi

Paresh Gandhi has been a core-faculty at I.D.E.A., Indus University since 2015. He completed Architecture course from CEPT,Ahmedabad in year 1989.In his formative years he was associated as research associate with premier institutes like CEPT, NID & CEE-Nehru foundation. He worked with eminent architects like Ar. B.V.Doshi, Ar. K.B.jain, Ar. Rajeev Kathapalia and Ar.Gautam Bhatia. He also has experienced working on landmark projects like IIM_Udaipur, Gandhinagar Medical College,etc. His expertise in Typology and Interpretation are inspirational.

Vishal Chudgar

Vishal Chudgar is an architect living and working in Ahmedabad. He pursued Bachelor in Architecture at Institute of Environmental Design, Vallabh Vidyanagar following which he gained formidable work experience at Earth Institute and with few other architects in Auroville. Back in Ahmedabad, he is developing his practice in architecture, earth consultancy and interior design. Offering hands-on workshops in rammed-earth construction is what brought him to academics. Believes that there is a lot for the industry and academics to learn from each other and that sustainability is main stream.

Prayas Abhinav

Prayas Abhinav is an artist and teacher. He has worked in the last few years on numerous pieces of speculative fiction, software, games, interactive installations, public interventions and curatorial projects. He contributed to research and projects at northeastwestsouth (n.e.w.s) (Amsterdam, NL). He has conducted workshops at Centre for Environmental Planning Technology (CEPT) (Ahmedabad), Dutch Art Institute (Arnhem, NL), MICA (Ahmedabad) and National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad & Bangalore). In the past he led the Centre for Experimental Media Arts (CEMA) at the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology in Bangalore. He is the initiator and the Director of the Museum of Vestigial Desire and founding member of Surfatial. 

He has developed his research and practice with the support of fellowships by Sarai, Openspace, the Center for Experimental Media Arts (CEMA), TED and Lucid. He has been in residencies at Khoj (India), Coded Cultures (Austria) and dis-locate (Japan). He has shared his work at festivals including Transmediale, 48c, Futuresonic, ISEA and Wintercamp.

Stephen

Stephen is currently associated with Indus University, Ahmedabad through research and academics, and his core research interest is generative processes in Architecture and automation possibilities of traditional crafts. He pursued Post Graduation research in Advanced Architectural Computation at Pune University in association with Politecnico di Milano and initiated architectural practice with his partner Brinda by 2011.

In evident of their meaningful explorations, their works were acknowledged and exhibited at various international stages such as Milan Expo -2013 & 2015 and World Bamboo Congress. His research expressions were part of various prestigious projects including Cocoon - a research pavilion which won prestigious RIBA President’s Bronze Medal and also exhibited at La Biennale di Venezia - 2016.

Ishita Narola

Architect Ishita Narola is deeply interested in restoration and conservation of architectural heritage. At IDEA, she assists in housing studio and is one of the core coordinators. She likes to express herself through sketching and painting, and is an avid traveler.

Siddharth Srivastava

Born in a small town near Varanasi, Siddharth had spent all his childhood travelling and living in the most traditional settings of northern India. He regards those years as major contributor to his interest towards traditional and vernacular art, architecture, music and literature. He has finished his B. Arch from Lucknow and later his M. Arch. in Theory and Design from CEPT University, Ahmedabad. During his years at CEPT, he did ethnographic study of traditional Islamic houses of Lucknow for his thesis. Also, he attended an art exchange in Siena, Italy, where he worked with many artists and sketched while travelling extensively in Italy. He has also been passionately involved in singing since many years. 

He has a work experience of over 5 years during which he worked for some reputed firms in Ahmedabad and has practiced in India and Mauritius. He has keen interest in Islamic history and is currently involved in research and writing in contemporary arts. Besides teaching, he is also involved in publications of Indus University. He has also lectured at Govt. College of Architecture, Lucknow, Amity University, Lucknow and Integral University, Lucknow.

Sneha Aiyer

Sneha Aiyer  is practising architect based in Ahmedabad with an experience of 6 years in the field of architecture with an interest in furniture design and landscape architecture. During her academic study, she spent one semester in The Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences: Technology, Business and Design, Germany. Post her graduation in 2012 from CEPT university, she worked with Indigo architects as a project architect on large scale residential and institutional projects with emphasis on sustainable materials and practices.

She believes the understanding of making lies in practice and is vital in sharpening our tools as architects. In her approach to architecture, special attention is towards economising the use of materials and resources while creating sensitive and beautiful buildings. She believes there is an inherent understanding in certain traditional knowledge, which can be interpretatively linked in the contemporary expression that is of the place and our time. She is also assisting Prof. Miki Desai and Madhavi Desai with their research projects.
