…….an initiative by OSA
Conducted by: Priyanka Sanjay Kanhare, Assistant professor, IDEA, Indus University.
Started from: 26th
The main intension of starting this club is to make students aware about the techniques for observing and drawing on location. This is a self-directed sketching workshop. Each step, each lesson, each exercise builds on the one before. Everything you practice will make the next step easier.
We’ll start with basic pencil drawing, then progress through pen and ink, oil pastels, charcoal, dry pastel, and finally touch on painting in watercolor (any medium for coloring). This method of progressive sketching will bring about the way one looks at scenes, objects and surrounding. You might not notice a change one day to the next; only after weeks or months can you look back and see your progress. The most important thing is to enjoy the process.
If you sketch through this order and step-by-step understanding, using places and things found in your daily life, you’ll gradually be introduced to all the essential skills of expressive sketching. You’ll experience your city in a new light, you’ll get better drawing by working first hand, and you’ll bring back stories to go with them.
You must also keep in mind that accuracy I not always important. One must find his/her own balance between accuracy and spontaneity. The main motto of this sketching club is: Don’t document –
Don’t just draw what is in front of you. Design what you put down in response to what you see. There may be valid reasons for you to alter strict reality to match your perception.
We shall try to do this all in good faith, not altering a scene any more than is necessary to tell the story as we experience it.
Sketching club trips shall happen every alternate Saturday and Sunday, where we all shall be visiting different places in and around Ahmedabad.
